Massachusetts Junk Fee Law: Eventeny Compliance

Learn how Eventeny complies with Massachusetts' junk fee law by displaying total ticket prices upfront, including all fees, to ensure transparency and legal compliance for event organizers.

What is the Massachusetts Junk Fee Law?

As of September 2, 2025, Massachusetts has implemented new regulations (940 CMR 38.00) requiring businesses to display the total price of a product, including all mandatory fees, upfront. The total cost must appear more prominently than any other price, so customers are never surprised by “hidden” fees at checkout.

This law applies to all purchases made by users in Massachusetts.

How Eventeny Has Updated Ticket Pages

To ensure compliance and protect event organizers using our platform, Eventeny has updated how ticket prices display on event pages:

  • Total Price Shown Upfront: Instead of showing only the base ticket price (e.g., “$117 + fees”), buyers will now immediately see the final price including fees (e.g., “$124 total (includes $7 fees)”).

  • Fee Breakdown Still Visible: Transparency remains important. While the total is shown first and most prominently, a full breakdown of base price and individual fees is still displayed so buyers know exactly what they’re paying for.

  • Automatic Compliance: Event organizers in Massachusetts don’t need to change any settings. The update applies automatically to all ticket pages to ensure compliance with state law.

Why This Matters for Organizers

  • Legal Compliance: Avoids penalties and keeps you aligned with Massachusetts state regulations.

  • Transparency for Attendees: Builds trust by showing the true cost upfront.

  • Reduced Support Requests: Fewer questions and disputes from attendees about “hidden” or “unexpected” fees.

  • Future-Proofing: Eventeny is proactively adapting for similar laws that may roll out in other states.

  • Customer Confidence: Event organizers can be confident they’re meeting new legal standards without added stress.

Looking Ahead

This update is just the beginning. As more states consider similar “junk fee” laws, Eventeny will continue enhancing our platform to keep you compliant and provide the highest level of transparency for both organizers and attendees.
